Nesta oficina, vamos explorar a xilogravura, uma técnica de impressão em relevo que utiliza a madeira como suporte, incorporando os seus veios na imagem final.
Começaremos por desenhar no papel e transferir o desenho para a madeira. Depois, com goivas, iremos esculpir a matriz, deixando em relevo as áreas a imprimir. Aplicaremos tinta com um rolo e faremos provas em papel para ajustes. Finalizaremos com a impressão na prensa, explorando também a possibilidade de trabalhar com mais do que uma cor.

In this workshop, we will explore woodcut printing, a relief printing technique that uses wood as a support, incorporating its grain into the final image.
We will start by drawing on paper and transferring the design onto the wood. Then, using gouges, we will carve the matrix, leaving the raised areas for printing. Ink will be applied with a roller, and test prints will be made on paper for adjustments. We will finish with printing on the press, also exploring the possibility of working with more than one color.

CARLOS BORGES
Carlos Borges estudou Escultura na Escola António Arroio e foi bolseiro da FCG em Pesquisa de Desenho. Aprendeu gravura, litografia e serigrafia na Sociedade Portuguesa de Gravadores com Maria Gabriel, Humberto Marçal e Dacos. Em 2009, aperfeiçoou-se em gravura na Ernsting Stiftung - Alter Hof, na Alemanha, e trabalhou em xilogravura na Kölner Graphikerkstatt, com assistência de Andreas Vietz. Seu projeto First Moment, um livro de artista com cinco xilogravuras, foi concluído em Lisboa e apresentado em 2011 na Livraria Almedina, CAM, FCG.
Vive e trabalha em Montemor-o-Novo.

Carlos Borges studied Sculpture at Escola António Arroio and was a research grant recipient in Drawing from FCG. He learned engraving, lithography, and screen printing at the Portuguese Society of Printmakers under Maria Gabriel, Humberto Marçal, and Dacos.
In 2009, he refined his engraving skills at the Ernsting Stiftung - Alter Hof in Germany and worked on woodcut printing at the Kölner Graphikerkstatt with the assistance of Andreas Vietz. His project First Moment, an artist's book featuring five woodcuts, was completed in Lisbon and presented in 2011 at Livraria Almedina, CAM, FCG.
He lives and works in Montemor-o-Novo.
