Are artists able to sell work during the residency?
Absolutely. Nothing would make us happier than our visiting artists leaving with money in their pockets. We ask that artists respect their gallery relationships.
Can family or friends join me while I’m in Miami?
Not without prior approval. We cannot commit to allowing anyone visitors but, we’re open. There are multiple artists at one time and everyone is there with a purpose.
What is expected of me while I’m there?
We expect you’ll actively work towards the goals we discussed when you were accepted and to make the best of the residency and all it has to offer. We hope that you will openly engage with other artists in the Residency and that you’ll take time to get to know Miami and its rich and diverse community.
You must respect the belongings and work of other resident’s, our neighbors, and the home itself and all it’s furnishings. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated and could result in being asked to leave early.
Explain the opportunity for a show/artist talk and studio visits.
We respect that not all artists will want to host studio visits and/or show what they have produced therefore this is handled on an individual basis. If you have specific requests please feel free to include them in your applications. We work closely with many local curators, artists, gallery owners and collectors so this opportunity is limited only by time available. We will do all we can to fulfill your requests and goals while here.
Residencies may culminate in an Open Studio where the artists show the work produced during their time in Lisbon. Open Studios focus on process and feedback as they often present work in progress and encourage interaction and dialogue between artists and the audience. Open Studios are organized between the artist and Hangar team, in a case-by-case basis.
